My father taught me years ago to read as if the author intended me as audience, to heed their lessons as if they were teaching me, to embrace them as my friends.
Three of my dear friends, this week, passed away:
William Bright, linguist
Clifford Geertz, anthropologist
William Styron, novelist
May they rest in peace!
